How to Make the Stretch Marks Less Visible
Stretch marks are more common in some people than the rest. Genetics and ethnicity do play an important role in this. If your mother had stretch marks you are more likely to have them and darker skinned people are less prone to stretch marks than fair skinned people. Stretch marks can appear as red, pink or purple lines and are best managed while these are still immature. Once they become white in color it is impossible to remove them.
Stretch marks normally occur in breasts, stomach, thighs, hips and buttocks where fat deposits are more. Removal of stretch marks requires a lot of effort and money too and the results will be different in different people. Some of the common methods used to remove stretch marks include:
- Tretinoin Cream: Though studies have shown that it is effective in making the stretch marks lighter, its safety on breast feeding mothers is not fully understood. So, it is important that you discuss with your doctor before using this medication.
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): Derived from plants, these can remove the superficial later of the skin, prompting fresh cell growth. These can improve skin color and texture and improves the skin tone and flexibility thus making the stretch marks less visible.
- Micro-Dermabrasion: This method involves the removal of the outer layers of the skin and dead cells using jets of zinc or aluminum oxide crystals. The dead cells are sucked off using a small vacuum. It is a simple and painless procedure that can be done without anesthetic.
- Endermologie: Using a machine the stretch marked areas are massaged thoroughly to improve circulation. It helps to remove built up water and toxins in the connective tissue as they are stretched. Several sittings might be required and the sessions that last for about half an hour each are handled by a trained technician.
- Laser Surgery: It is a costly option that can make the stretch marks less noticeable. Laser surgery is more effective in the primary stages where the lines are still red because laser rays will only respond to dark colors. A series of session will be required for noticeable results.
- Temporary Concealers and Make Up: There are many concealers and cosmetics that help you to mask these lines temporarily.
- Well Balanced Diet: The intake of a nutritious diet with lots of green vegetables and fruits can make the skin soft and supple and might make the lines less visible.
- Self Tanner Creams: The stretch marks can be camouflaged using a self-tanner helps to camouflage their stretch marks. The normal body tan wont work for these marks as stretch marks do not tan but under sun these will be exposed more. So, make sure to sue tanners specifically meant for stretch marks.
- Skin-Tightening Lotion: It should be applied twice a day for best results. Rub the lotion gently and firmly in the affected areas and as the skin gets firm the lines appear less visible. Stretch marks stand out badly on loose and baggy skin.
Rather than stressing on the topical applications, more care should be given to include a nutritious diet plan to tackle the stretch marks from within!
